Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars

Festive and easy-to-make patriotic sugar cookie bars, perfect for celebrations like the Fourth of July.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted, softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 2 tbsp brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add in the egg, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Mix well.
  4. Combine baking powder, flour, cornstarch, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to the wet mixture until combined.
  5. Spread the dough into a greased 8×8 inch baking pan.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges start to turn golden. Let cool completely.
  7. Mix together 4 tbsp softened butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 3 tbsp heavy cream until fluffy and smooth.
  8. Spread frosting over the cooled cookie layer and top with patriotic sprinkles.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
